An educational visit to the sewage treatment plant located in Bhesan, Surat, was organized on March 14, 2024. Approximately 45 students and 3 faculty members visited this sewage treatment plant. The plant has a capacity of 200 MLD (millions of liters per day). The Bhesan Drainage Zone mainly consists of four sewerage schemes: Rander, Jahangirabad, Adajan, and Pal. There are three main treatment plants with capacities of 60 MLD, 40 MLD, and 100 MLD. Treated wastewater from the Bhesan Sewage Treatment Plant is discharged into the nearby Tena Khadi, following the previously prescribed norms of the GPCB (Gujarat Pollution Control Board) since 1996.
Students gained practical knowledge of the treatment process from Mrs. Archna Rana and Mr. Hani Patel, who are employees at the sewage treatment plant. They briefly explained the existing plant model and then described the different water tanks where sewage water is treated. They guided students on how suspended, floating, dissolved, undissolved, organic, and inorganic impurities are removed by different methods.
